A hair transplant is not suitable for every person, as various factors play a role. For example, inflammation of the hair roots, the quality or quantity of the donor hair can prevent the procedure from being carried out. People with a very small donor area and a large balding area often do not have enough hair follicles (grafts) to achieve satisfactory results. In such cases, alternative treatment methods are available. Hair transplants are also not suitable for people with certain illnesses, such as HIV infection or He patitis A, B or C. Before the procedure, we carry out tests at the clinic to ensure that there are no risks such as transmissible pathogens. A weakened immune system can increase the risk of inflammation. In addition, blood pressure medication and blood-thinning medication must be discontinued before the procedure.
Yes, women can also undergo a hair transplant. However, the causes of hair loss often differ between the sexes. While hair loss in men is usually genetic, hormonal factors are often responsible in women. The procedure itself is the same for both sexes.
Before a hair transplant, it is particularly important to clarify the cause of hair loss in women by means of a blood count. However, women with very fine hair in the donor area are not suitable for the treatment. If the hair loss is limited to the receding hairline, the Unshaven method can be a discreet solution. A hair transplant can be carried out at any time of year. There are basically no age limits, but the hair loss should be stable. This is often the case with older people. For younger patients whose hair loss is not yet complete, we initially recommend alternative methods such as medication or plasma therapies.
During a hair transplant, healthy hair follicles are removed from the back of the head (donor area) and implanted in bald areas (recipient area). The procedure is therefore a redistribution of hair. There is no fixed age limit. However, we advise against transplants for people under the age of 25, as hair loss is often not yet complete. In such cases, the progressive loss of natural hair can lead to aesthetic problems, as the transplanted hair remains while the rest falls out. It is therefore important that the hair loss is stable before the transplant.
